A 14-year-old Archduchess Marie Antoinette is welcomed to France

April 25, 2011

The duke of Choiseul, as French ambassador to Austria, had been the principal agent in negotiating the marriage of the Dauphin, the future Louis XVI, and the Austrian Archduchess Marie Antoinette.

Preceded by the duke, King Louis XV went to Compiègne to meet his future granddaughter-in-law. As the duke made his bow, Marie Antoinette said: “Sir, I will never forget that you made my happiness.”

“And that of France,” the ambassador replied joyfully.

14? Good God she looks 30.

  • At age 14, Marie Antoinette already had an astonishing "savoir plaire." Wouldn't our teenagers be better off if they emulated Marie Antoinette and rejected the horrible example given by entertainment celebrities?

At 14, Marie Antoinette was married and trying to create a child. This is not a good example for today’s teenagers.

Sadly, today’s teenagers could learn a lot from Marie Antoinette, if they just made a small effort at self-control.
