Queen appoints Earl of Home as Knight of the Thistle

According to the Berwick Advertiser:

The Earl of Home…has been awarded the highest honor in Scotland by the Queen.

David Alexander Cospatrick Douglas-Home has been appointed a Knight of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle in the New Year’s Honours.

One the highest orders of chivalry, it is a personal gift of the Queen and is second in rank only to the Knights of the Garter….

When the hereditary peers in the House of Lords were reduced in 1999, he was elected as one of the 92 to remain and sits in the Lords as a Conservative.
