Queen Elizabeth prays for the repose of her father on 63rd anniversary of accession to throne

According to the Daily Express:

It is always a bitter-sweet anniversary for the 88-year-old monarch, who usually spends the day at Sandringham House, where her father died in his sleep at the age of 56 after succumbing to lung cancer on February 6, 1952.

The Queen, who always begins accession day with private prayers for her father, was aged only 25 and on a tour of Kenya when she learned of his death.

She…is due to become Britain’s longest reigning sovereign on September 9, passing the record set by her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria.

Victoria came to the throne aged 18…, reigning…more than 63 years.
