St. Francis de Sales led a Crusade against the Calvinists

St. Francis de Sales

St. Francis of Sales* carried out a crusade himself. A small crusade, but he did. We have often spoken about this. As far as I know, this saint – who understood what a crusade was – did not have a word of praise for the crusaders. But it would be erroneous to imagine that that spirit was lost on him.

* Posting pamphlets on walls and slipping them beneath doors under the cover of night, St. Francis de Sales wrote these tracts to bring back the Calvinists of Chablais to the Catholic Church. His efforts ended up converting 72,000 Calvinists in four years time.
